Why should we reinvent the wheel?

If someone were to ask me, "What is your most frequent thought when you work in the Diocesan offices?", I would probably respond with "Why should we reinvent the wheel?"

In fact, most of the work we do in the Diocesan offices is based on this. Why should we keep information to ourselves? Our work is to bring together, and yes, sometimes create, resources that could be beneficial to congregations, and then share them. That second part–the sharing–is probably my favorite part of being an Intern here.

From our incredible Communications Director with his websites, posters and video projects, to the curriculums for young people made by our Developer for Youth and Young Adult Ministries, the Diocese is all about connecting people with beneficial ideas.

This concept in my internship doesn't bring a lengthy principle to live by, but actually a rather simple one: share good ideas! As Christians, we are called to be apart of something larger than ourselves. Christianity is all about interconnection, and its a wonderful quality!

Our youth group has a favorite game: Grog. The logistics of the game are a little complicated, but it is basically a combination of hide-n-seek and tag. This game is now a St. Margaret's Church EYC tradition, and all of a sudden, I heard that the first activity at the Diocesan Youth Retreat this weekend is grog! The youth group was ecstatic, because we are getting to share something that is so beneficial for our community with others.

This interconnection and resource providing is the exact thing this church needs right now. There seems to be too many statements of "this is ours" or "make your own" hurled between congregations. If we help one another by sharing ideas, we become stronger as a whole, and as individuals–we become the church God intends for us to be.

So, tell me: why should we reinvent the wheel?
