MY FAITH

Above all things, I am a Christian. Denominations put aside, I am apart of the Christian family, where we are challenged to both love and wrestle with one another because of who we are. I believe with my whole heart that Christianity is far larger than any Episcopalian or Catholic, Baptist or Methodist, Pentecostal or Church of Christ. I believe that Christianity is about interacting with one another in the way God intends.

Next, I consider myself to be Anglican. My favorite definition of the word Anglican comes from Archbishop Desmond Tutu from South Africa, who stated, "We meet." That simple and honest definition of Anglicanism is one of the most crucial qualities in my faith. The various provinces in the Anglican communion across the globe have many similarities, and even more differences, but, as Archbishop Tutu says, we meet. We never walk away from the table.

After that, I am an Episcopalian–a cradle-Episcopalian at that. Each denomination has the opportunity to offer a unique gift to the entire community of Christians. Episcopalians offer the unique gift of of an experience of God's grace: worship. We also have many of other incredible qualities, but our worship as an experience of God is one of the most impacting, in my own opinion.

  1. I love this definition, We meet. I haven't heard that before but it is beautifully simplistic and encompassing. Thank you!
