Remembering 9/11

I really didn't think about today being September 11 until our Principal called for a moment of silence in "loving memory of those who died and those who served in the tragedies of September 11, 2001." Every once in a while, we get stopped right in our tracks to recall something very tragic.

September 11 is a day that many of us reflect on being victimized by terror ourselves.  I believe that the tragedies of September 11 call for us to mourn for those who died and honor those who served in the fearful fires in New York, but there is also a call to make things better than they once were before. Today, 9/11 is a resurrection story. This tragedy can be turned on it's head. Not to ignore terroristic strife in the human family, but to make the world a community of gleaming love.

We are called to learn from being terrorized, and to not cause terror for other. We are called to recollect the experiences of fear, and bring Christ's love to the trembling hearts of those who need it. That is evangelism at it's heart. As Christians, we are to testify to what we have seen.

This message may not be directly related to youth ministry, but all Christians should recognize our call to testify to our experiences of death in certain hope for rebirth.
